The two classic videos above are an excellent explanation of catalysis and the ideas behind reaction rates. The reaction mechanism sections of these videos are worth watching over several times. The narrator, J. Arthur Campbell, a brilliant chemist and teacher, narrates the video. I was fortunate to have him as one of my many excellent chemistry teachers.

Reaction of Hydrogen and Chlorine.... don't turn on the lights with this mixture! Red, yellow, and green photons, no matter how many, cannot initiate this reaction. Only UV photons have sufficient energy to break the Cl-Cl bond which will then produce Cl atoms that can start a chain reaction to form HCl.
